You Don’t Have to Shrink to Support Someone Else
Sometimes, we may catch ourselves putting others first before ourselves. Which isn’t always a bad thing, but can become unhealthy in the long run. Validating someone’s feelings doesn’t mean sacrificing your own. You are capable of respecting yourself while respecting others. Don’t belittle yourself for the satisfaction of everyone else, or consider them more important than your own thoughts and soul. You are allowed to exist freely without the guilt of being a “savior” and rest without that constant pressure to be there for everyone. Allow yourself to take the time to breathe for yourself. You’ll be doing yourself a huge favor.
Taking care of ourselves isn’t selfish; it’s being respectful and responsible towards our mental and physical health. This realization may not only be for our understanding of our own bodies, but can help us understand that the people who help us every day or are always giving us that constant reassurance have a life just as complex as ours. Ask them if they are okay, because not all problems are spoken out loud or visually seen.
