Loving a Heart That’s Still Learning To Trust
“Patience is a virtue” is a common phrase that many may hear. And it’s totally true. Patience, which may be lacking in many people, isn’t easy to have, but in a relationship, whether romantic, platonic, or familial, patience is needed. Remembering that the people we love go through struggles we may not completely understand is the first step to successfully validating someone who may still be trying to heal. But how can we exactly help them without knowing? It’s all about comfort.
Some people may not open up as easily as others, and that doesn’t mean bombarding them with questions. I personally admire space and time to think about the things I want to say. That may be the case for others as well. Certain moments in our lives may feel too personal to share, but with enough time, slithering out of those shells and comfort zones can gradually become easier.
Providing a private space between you and your loved ones helps set the tone that everything is okay. Signaling “You can trust me”. Which, of course, could take a while to be effective when dealing with someone with genuine trust problems. Though sometimes people who do struggle with trust issues may come across or feel as if they are too “difficult” to handle, it doesn’t mean they deserve love any less than someone who’s open-hearted and trusting. Being able to learn how to love people the way they feel most comfortable with is important. Not only to them but to the relationship.
